Huawei PoE switches deliver both data and power over Ethernet, supporting PoE, PoE+, PoE++, and high-power Hi-PoE for campus, IoT, and Wi-Fi 6/7 networks.

Overview

Huawei PoE switches are designed to simultaneously transmit data and power to devices such as IP phones, access points, cameras, LED lighting, and mini-PC kiosks over Ethernet cables, eliminating the need for separate power lines . They are widely used in campus networks, smart buildings, and IoT corridors, offering high reliability, simplified management, and AI-driven operations .

PoE Standards and Power

Huawei switches support multiple PoE standards:

  • PoE (IEEE 802.3af): Up to 15 W per port
  • PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at): Up to 30 W per port
  • PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt Type 3): Up to 60 W per port
  • Hi-PoE/UPoE+ (Type 4): Up to 90 W per port, suitable for high-power devices like multiradio APs and PTZ cameras Dynamic power allocation and scheduled power policies help reduce energy costs, while “always-on” PoE ensures devices remain powered during switch reboots .

  • Redundancy: N+1 or 1+1 power-supply design and hot-swappable fans for mission-critical environments
  • Management: Supports SNMP, Web CLI, and standard CLI for configuration and monitoring

The Huawei S310-48P4S is a 48-port Gigabit PoE+ switch with 4 SFP+ uplinks, delivering up to 380 W total PoE power. It is suitable for access and aggregation layers in campus networks, supporting VLANs, QoS, ACLs, and high-speed data transfer .

Enabling and Managing PoE

On Huawei S series switches, PoE is enabled by default on interfaces. Commands include:

  • Disable PoE: undo poe enable
  • Enable PoE: poe enable
  • Force power to a device if negotiation fails: poe force-power Each interface can supply up to 30 W, with a maximum distance of 100 meters for standard PoE devices .
