Overview of PoE on Huawei Switches

Huawei switches act as Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE), while connected devices are Powered Devices (PDs) . PoE standards supported include:

  • PoE (IEEE 802.3af): up to 30 W per port
  • PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at): higher power for devices like dual-band APs or video phones
  • PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt): supports high-power devices such as PTZ cameras

Enabling and Managing PoE

PoE is enabled by default on most Huawei S series switch interfaces. Administrators can manage PoE using the following commands :

  • Enable PoE on an interface:

  • Disable PoE on an interface:

  • Force power to a device if negotiation fails:

Monitoring and Configuration

  • display poe information: shows current power consumption, maximum output, peak usage, and power management mode Administrators can also set maximum power per port using the poe max-power command and configure power management modes such as auto or priority-based allocation.
