  • Pros: Allows multiple connections to appear as a single logical connection, enabling higher throughput for single sessions.
  • Cons: Often requires a service provider or remote server to handle the recombination; more complex and may involve additional cost.

3. SD-WAN

  • SD-WAN solutions can intelligently route traffic across multiple ISPs based on application type, latency, or bandwidth availability .
  • Pros: Optimizes performance, provides failover, and can prioritize critical traffic.
  • Cons: Does not inherently merge bandwidth for a single session unless combined with bonding technology.

Practical Recommendations

  • Use link aggregation on switches only for internal LAN traffic to increase throughput between switches or servers.
  • For multiple broadband lines:
    • Load balancing is suitable for distributing multiple users' traffic.
    • Bonding services are required if you want to combine bandwidth for single-session speed.
    • Consider SD-WAN for intelligent routing and failover across multiple ISPs.
  • Avoid expecting a standard switch to merge ISP lines; it cannot handle the complexities of TCP/IP session management across different public IPs . By combining these approaches, you can maximize bandwidth utilization, improve redundancy, and maintain stable connections for critical applications.
